There's not always a ton to love about winter in The Berkshires, but a shining light during our darkest, coldest months, are great local ski areas, and one is about to get  face lift.

Catamount Ski Area was purchased in May for approximately $3 million, and the new owners are making good on their promise to bring some new life to the 80 year old resort.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that the resort owners recently received a special permit from the town's Planning Board to build a new multipurpose lodge, renovate an on site lodge as well as the installation of a new triple ski lift.

In a statement announcing the purchase of Catamount, Berkshire East owner Jon Schaefer discussed their experience with Berkshire East, proving it's possible to transition a Berkshire County ski area into a dynamic adventure-based, four-season resort with world class mountain biking and zip lining,  mountain coasters, white-water rafting, a top wedding venue and adventure park. Schaefer said the hope is to introduce similar activities to the ski new acquired ski area within the next two years.  When renovations are complete, Catamount plans to start hosting large events, like weddings and concerts.
