It is National Child Passenger Safety Week and it will culminate with an important community event on Saturday.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be at the Pittsfield Walmart parking lot, 55 Hubbard Avenue, this Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. They will be there to to provide safety tips and car seat installation instructions to parents and caregivers.

According to the National Safety Council, car crashes are the leading cause of death for children. In 2016, via a report from Injury Facts, 723 children were killed in motor vehicle crashes, which equates to two children every day.

Berkshire County, if you have any questions at all about car seat safety, or just want to make sure your car seat is installed properly -- this includes those who are about to become parents and will be installing car seats for the first time -- this is something you should definitely take part in. This will coincide with "National Seat Check Saturday", which has similar events across the country.
