While less and less people are drinking soda, be it regular or diet, Coca-Cola is eyeing a cannabis infused wellness beverage.

Coca-Cola says it’s monitoring the nascent industry and is interested in drinks infused with CBD -- the non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that treats pain but doesn’t get you high. The Atlanta-based soft drinks maker is in talks with Canadian marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis to develop the beverages. -BNN

CBD is one of many compounds, known as cannabinoids, in the cannabis plant. The least processed form of the cannabis plant is hemp. Hemp contains most of the CBD that people use medicinally, according to medicalnewstoday.com.

Health benefits of CBD have been shown to help with pain relief (anti-inflammatory), epilepsy, quitting smoking, cancer, neurological disorders, anxiety and depression, Type 1 diabetes, acne and more.

Aurora Cannabis stocks rose yesterday with the recent news that Coca-Cola was interested in developing a new product. Molson Coors Brewing is also interested in a CBD infused drink in Canada.

With the many possible benefits of CBD, Coca-Cola is interested in a drink that promotes helps with pain relief.
