A Dalton man was sentenced to prison Tuesday afternoon for his role in the April break-in of a Pittsfield Lipton Mart.

According to the Berkshire County District Attorney's office, 40-year-old Gerard Menard pleaded guilty to a pair of charges in connection with the incident. Guilty pleas were entered on a count each of breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and larceny from a building.

Menard broke into the South Street Lipton Mart location in Pittsfield on April 18. Judge Daniel Ford ordered Menard to serve concurrent two to three year state prison sentences at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction. In July, Menard had entered not guilty pleas on the charges and was released on $1,000 bail.

The investigation was done by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.
