If you were planning on doing some swimming, boating or fishing Wednesday at Onota Lake, you will need to revise your plans.

The City of Pittsfield announced that Onota Lake will be closed throughout the day and night on Wednesday for treatment.

"Onota Lake will be chemically treated with aquatic herbicides on Wednesday, June 13 to control invasive Eurasian watermilfoil and other nuisance aquatic vegetation," City of Pittsfield officials stated. "The lake will be closed to all water uses (i.e. swimming, fishing and boating) on the day of treatment."

Onota Lake will only be re-opened for water use on Thursday morning. However, if you use the lake water for other uses, you will have to wait a couple of weeks to do so.

"Use of the lake water for irrigation for watering lawns, gardens or plants of any kind is prohibited for 14 days post treatment," says the City of Pittsfield. "Printed posters warning of these and other temporary water use restrictions will be posted around the lake shoreline in advance of the treatment."
