14 Taconic Seniors Vie For A Shot At The Mr. Taconic Title
This time every year a group of Taconic High School senior boys dust of their evening wear and polish their talent skills for a chance to be crowned "Mr. Taconic". Next Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the brand new school's auditorium, a new group will take the stage.
The beloved competition, now celebrating ten years of tradition, will be the inaugural competition at the new school as 14 students strut their stuff to raise money for the Taconic chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA). BPA is a national student organization with more than 45,000 members in over 1,800 chapters in 25 states and Puerto Rico that provides opportunities for students in business and technology. Taconic BPA students will compete at the State Leadership Conference in Framingham, MA and the National Leadership.
The 14 young men will compete in a pageant style format and be judged in formal wear, talent, public speaking and choreographed dancing. The participating students were nominated because they embody the mission of Taconic High School: Take responsibility, Have respect and Strive for excellence.
This years participants are Derek Adams, Lord Arhinful, Gabe Carrington, Connor Champoux, Trevor Coleman, Jayden Cross, Ben DeWinkler, Aiden Kotski, Brandon Pelkey, Zabion Powell, Jared Stedman, Mitchell Strack, Paul Suasti, and Andrew Walchenbach.
Awards will be given out for each competitive category and the Senior who accumulates the most points overall will be crowned Mr. Taconic. The audience will vote for their favorite, crowned Mr. Popularity and the contestants will determine the title of Mr. Congeniality among the group. A total of $250 will be awarded in prizes.
All are welcome and tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information contact Heather McNeice in the Business Department at (413) 448-9600 ext. 2013
