SNL just wrapped up season 50. Creator and producer Lorne Michaels was at the helm for all of them. Michaels turned 80 last November and "Weekend Update" anchors Colin Jost, Michael Che joked on Saturday night that he should just retire already.

Not to be confused with SNL "characters" from Boston like Zazu (Rachel Dratch) and Sully (Jimmy Fallon) who played two teenagers from Lexington, MA who were in love with each other, this post is reflective of actual cast members that are from Massachusetts.

Eight performers with ties to the state have left their mark on SNL’s legacy, often infusing their work with regional charm.

  • Jane Curtin (Cambridge, MA)

Curtin was an original cast member (1975–1980), anchoring Weekend Update and starring as Prymaat in the Coneheads. Her sharp wit set a high bar for female comedians. Jane, you ignorant, s---!

  • Nancy Carell (Cohasset, MA)

Cast member from 1995–1996, performed under her maiden name, Walls, and is married to Steve Carell.

  • Anthony Michael Hall (West Roxbury, MA)

Hall who was a big star in the '80s joined SNL at 17 (1985–1986), though his tenure was brief amid his teen movie fame.

  • Amy Poehler (Burlington, MA)

Poehler was born in Newton and raised in Burlington, shone from 2001–2008, co-anchoring Weekend Update and delivering iconic impressions like Hillary Clinton. Her comedic energy remains a fan favorite.

  • Jenny Slate (Milton, MA)

Who? She was actually wonderful in "It Ends With Us" and had a short but memorable 2009–2010 stint, marked by her accidental f-bomb in a sketch.

  • Michaela Watkins (Wellesley, MA)

Raised in Wellesley, brought versatility in 2008–2009 with impressions like Hoda Kotb.

  • Rachel Dratch (Lexington, MA)

Dratch was a standout from 1999–2006, creating beloved characters like Debbie Downer and Denise McDenna in the Boston Teens sketches, which leaned heavily into Massachusetts culture with thick Boston accents and local references.

  • Ayo Edebiri (Boston, MA)

Born in Boston, joined in Season 49 (2023–2024), showcasing her comedic range in sketches like "Mr. Beast."
