Each Third Thursday celebration in Downtown Pittsfield has a theme, and September's for the last eight years has been the International March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence. Locally, Walk a Mile in her shoes benefits The Elizabeth Freeman Center

On Thursday, September 19, the 9th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes will once again take place at 6 PM in Downtown Pittsfield. The march pledges that "together we can make our homes and streets safe for all".

Participants are encouraged to walk one mile in women's shoes, although it is not required. Walkers will be provided with festive decorations to spruce up their own shoes if they so choose. The purpose of Walk A Mile is to support and raise funds for The Elizabeth Freeman Center who "provides leadership and services to address domestic and sexual violence in Berkshire County".

Last year over 800 walkers registered for the event, and organizers would love to see that number hit 900 this year.
