Aerus Closes Pittsfield Location After Decades of Service
The Aerus store at 383 North Street in Pittsfield permanently closed its doors on December 31, ending the local franchise's decades-long presence in the Berkshires.
A sign posted by manager Al Clemo reads: "Store is closed permanently. For service please call 413-446-8534." I also placed a call to Aerus and they confirmed the closing.
Aerus, originally founded as Electrolux Corporation USA in 1924, has been a trusted name in home cleaning and air purification for over a century. Swedish businessman Gustaf Sahlin brought the revolutionary tank-style vacuum cleaner to America, introducing a cleaning technology that quickly became a household standard.
The company's iconic Electrolux Model XXX, introduced in 1937, sold nearly 14 million units and was later recognized by the Smithsonian Institute as one of the top 100 U.S. products of all time. Those classic tank vacuum cleaners became legendary for their durability and cleaning power. Many Berkshire residents, including yours truly, can attest to their quality after years of reliable service.
In 2001, the company rebranded as Aerus LLC after selling North American naming rights back to Electrolux Group of Sweden. While maintaining their renowned vacuum cleaner line, Aerus expanded into air purifiers, water filtration systems, and other healthy home products - all of which were sold at
Today, Aerus operates over 500 independently owned franchises across the United States and Canada, though the Pittsfield location will no longer be among them. Customers needing service on existing Aerus or Electrolux products can contact the number provided by the former manager.
