Berkshire Humane Society Pet of the Week: Meet Freya
Every Wednesday at 8:30 we're joined by John Perreault, Executive Director of the Berkshire Humane Society to discuss all the happenings at their Barker Road facility, plus talk about their Pet of the Week.
This week's Pet of the Week is Freya, a gorgeous 2-year-old American pit bull terrier mix who has been patiently waiting for her new forever family at Berkshire Humane Society since March 13th, 2024. Although she handles life at the shelter like a pro, it’s all due to the dedication and consistent work the kennel staff have provided her.
Freya arrived at Berkshire Humane Society because she was getting into scuffles with a resident dog in her prior home, and due to her apprehensive nature around strangers. She can be a bit wary of men to start, but once she feels comfortable, she warms up quickly and has little to no issues with women at all.
Staff taught Freya how to heel and she knows various commands including sit, down, and rollover. Staff have also taught her a marker word to reward good behaviors. Freya has also been going on off-property field trips to places such as Home Depot and Tractor Supply so she can walk amongst strangers in a controlled environment. She’s done quite well with these outings further proving the consistency she’s receiving is allowing her to be better versed in good behavior.
Smart, active, and playful, Freya will make a great companion for an outdoor enthusiast. She happily spends time playing in the pens with a jolly ball or tennis ball, and in the summer, you’ll find she loves taking a dip in the kiddie pools or wading in local ponds. Freya settles nicely in her kennel with an interactive toy when she’s not out romping about playing fetch and quite often, you’ll find her relaxing in a crate at the front desk assisting the volunteers.
Freya’s ideal home would be as a single dog with teens and older. Her adopters should be willing to continue working with her so she can become the best version of herself. This includes the training required to be a well-mannered member of the dog-society. Freya has plenty of love to give to an experienced dog family, and deserves to find the perfect home she has been waiting for.
Two sponsors have not only sponsored her full adoption fee, but her first session of training at the Stephanie Beling Family Dog School obedience center located at Berkshire Humane Society.
If you think Freya may be a good fit for your family, please call the kennel staff at Berkshire Humane Society - (413)-447-7878 ext. 126 to learn more about her and potentially meet her. They will be accepting applications and choosing the best possible home that suits her needs.
