Every Wednesday at 8:30 we're joined by John Perreault, Executive Director of the Berkshire Humane Society to discuss all the happenings at their Barker Road facility, plus talk about their Pet of the Week.

This week's Pet of the Week is Mary Jane a 6-year-old black lab/pitbull mix who was surrendered to Berkshire Humane Society because her previous owners were moving. This sweet girl, who loves to play with tennis balls, is a lovable companion looking for a home where she can split her time between snuggling and playing.

Mary Jane previously lived with another dog so could go home to a household with another pup after a successful meet and greet. Due to her prey drive, she should not go to a home with cats and she would do best with children at least 8 years old. Mary Jane lived outside in her former life but has kept her kennel spotless while at the shelter.

If you are interested in meeting this great dog, please call 413-447-7878, extension 126.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
