Berkshire Museum Will Reopen July 29, 2026
Driving by the Berkshire Museum on South St. in Pittsfield the other day, I saw the reopening sign!
After more than 18 months of construction and a $12 million investment, the museum will reopen its doors to the public on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The transformation promises a fresh, modern experience while honoring the institution’s roots in art, science, and history. -berkshireeagle.com
Tickets to the museum go on sale starting Monday, June 29.
The project focused heavily on the first floor where workers relocated and expanded the aquarium into a state-of-the-art facility. New tanks arrived earlier this year, and construction included pouring concrete floors and installing updated exhibits designed to immerse visitors in nature!
Other highlights include refreshed galleries, restored dioramas, a new lobby and gift shop, plus family-friendly spaces. New permanent features like the Immersed in Nature Gallery and Cabinets of Curiosities join a special exhibition, Voices of Rebellion: Berkshires’ Revolutionary Legacy, celebrating local history.
The renovation, designed by architect Yo-ichiro Hakomori of StudioHAU, changed the visitor flow while preserving the historic building’s character and founder Zenas Crane’s original vision. The museum closed to the public in January 2025 for the work but stayed active with off-site events and programs.
Hours after reopening will be Friday through Wednesday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tickets go on sale Monday, June 29. Memberships have been extended to cover the closure period.
This needed upgrade will make the Berkshire Museum more attractive and act even more so as an educational staple and discovery of wonderment in the Berkshires. Local families, tourists, and school groups should find plenty of new reasons to visit!
