I thought was sharing news about Canna Provisions on social media last week - they ended up putting my name on the signboard because of it.

Canna's CEO, Meg, was in the studio for an on-air chat with Marjo and I this morning about the whole thing.

Canna Provisions is a cannabis retail spot next to the old Sunoco that’s getting torn down.

There happens to be a Canna Provisions sign hanging on the construction fence. I snapped a photo, posted it to my personal Facebook page after Marjo texted that she’d just been told they bought the gas station. Rookie move. I did not confirm it.

A worker commented almost immediately. "We didn’t buy it". I pulled the post. A Pittsfield group had already screenshot it.

Monday morning I rang the doorbell to right my wrong. License was expired, which made the whole thing even more awkward. Rich, the manager, came out to the parking lot. I told him who I was and that I was sorry. He said they’d been having a blast with it. People were walking in talking about it.

They never bought the station. They asked the construction foreman if they could hang a sign because they were losing walk-in traffic while the pumps were shut down. The foreman said they didn’t care, according to Meg.

That night Rich texted. They wanted to lean into it. Next day the letterboard said hey "Slater!, We still didn’t buy the gas station".

That’s the whole story. Small town, wrong photo, quick apology, and a shop that would rather laugh than get mad.

Canna is at 1021 South Street, across from Guido’s, with shops in Lee and Holyoke too.

They run a letterboard contest if you’ve got a line. Download the app or get on the email list. They also asked people to vote no on Question 8. That’s the ballot item that would shut adult-use cannabis down.

It was nice getting to know Meg, their CEO, on the radio this morning.
