We went to visit the north shore yesterday and do a little shopping only to find that Nordstrom at the the North Shore Mall had closed and massive signs promoting "Dick's House of Sport" were in its place.

This is a different Dick's

Dick's Sporting Goods is coming -- but not just a regular Dick's. This one is called Dick's House of Sport, and it is a completely different experience than what you might be used to.

Your typical Dick's Sporting Goods is your standard sporting goods store. You walk in, grab sneakers, pick up a bat or a basketball, maybe browse some workout gear, and head out. Nothing wrong with that. The one over at Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers is still open and doing exactly that.

But a House of Sport is a whole different animal. Think of it as part store, part sports complex. The Peabody location will be around 100,000 square feet and will feature things like batting cages, golf simulators with TrackMan technology, rock climbing walls, and multi-sport cages you can use for baseball, softball, and soccer. It is meant to be a place you actually hang out and do stuff, not just shop.

Nordstrom closed at Northshore Mall back in January of 2025. The good news for bargain hunters -- the Nordstrom Rack is still around. That one is over in Danvers.

As for when the House of Sport opens, signs on-site are now pointing to 2027. Original announcements had floated summer 2026, but it looks like the timeline has been pushed back.
