Sleep in a Tent for $500? It Could Happen in Lanesborough
I miss golf at Donnybrook - but there is some good news for the empty Country Club property that's been sitting there on Route 7 in Lanesborough for what feels like forever. There's finally a real plan for it.
Under Canvas, a nationally recognized resort company, wants to turn the 160-acre property into a luxury glamping resort. They're applying for permits right now to put up 94 canvas safari tents on platforms. We're talking king-size beds, adjoining bathrooms with hot showers, wood-burning stoves, private decks – the whole upscale camping experience.
Under Canvas was established in 2012
And look, Under Canvas is legit. They've got 13 locations across the country near places like Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and the Great Smoky Mountains. This isn't some fly-by-night operation. They know what they're doing. So this could actually happen, which honestly would be better than watching Donnybrook continue to decay on one of our main roads.
Here's the thing though – and this is where I did a double-take – at their other locations, these tents go for $250 to $600 PER NIGHT. To sleep in a tent. Granted, it's a FANCY tent with hot water and a real bed, but still. There's no electricity, no air conditioning, just USB charging packs and portable fans. -berkshireeagle.com
So yes, it's great that Donnybrook might finally have a future. It's a massive property with over 2,700 feet of road frontage, and frankly, something is better than nothing at this point. But are we really at the point where tourists will pay $400 a night to glamp in Lanesborough?
