An early morning fire at 301-303 Francis Ave. in Pittsfield has displaced 5 tenants and claimed the life of a dog, according to Pittsfield Deputy Chief Neil Myers.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence at approximately 4:32 a.m. on Wednesday morning and upon arrival found heavy fire showing from the rear left side of the two family home.

The 2 alarm blaze was under control in about 45 minutes according to Myers.

Mutual aid response to Pittsfield Fire Dept. HQ on Columbus Ave. was provided from the towns of Lanesborough, Dalton, and Lenox.

One person was transported to BMC for non-life threatening injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
