This Saturday is the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which is a safe, convenient and anonymous means of disposing of expired or no longer needed prescriptions.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.

According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

In Berkshire Country, the Pittsfield Police Department at 39 Allen St. will be open for drop offs from 10 am - 1 pm. The DEA's website also has a collection site locator that can help people throughout the country find a place to safely dispose of old prescriptions.
