Despite being a time honored holiday tradition to celebrate 4th of July, a recent seizure of illegal fireworks serves as a reminder to residents that are illegal in the Commonwealth.

According to a post from the Pittsfield Police Department, officers were called to assist the Pittsfield Fire Department Inspection Bureau for large amounts of fireworks inside an apartment building. Investigators responded after a report of fireworks being set off in the afternoon on Francis Avenue. According to police, enough fireworks were confiscated to fill the back of a pickup truck, and will be turned over to the State Fire Marshall for destruction.

The department reminds residents to enjoy the festivities surrounding the 4th of July but do so in a safe manner. According to PPD's Facebook, In 2017, 12,900 people sustained injuries as a result of fireworks and 8 people died.
