Alicia Powers of Indulgence Salon in Pittsfield, is passionate about hair, but more passionate about the effect that a new haircut can have on the confidence of that client, especially girls and young women.

For the second year in a row, Powers reached out to fellow stylists around Berkshire County and in sponsorship with Pittsfield Officer Darren Derby, has organized the 2nd Annual Back to School Community Hair Cuts. Last year the event served just under 50 girls, and this year they hope to hit 100.

When some girls first get to my chair, there is no eye contact, no smile, heads are down. By the time their style is finished, it's all smiles and they're running around, taking pictures. It's a great feeling. I like giving back to the community that has given me so much.
