We're halfway through the summer season, but Berkshire County children are still a month away from heading back to school. That means another month of driving you crazy.
Looking for a way to get the kids out of the house, and burn some energy that won't cost you a dime? Enter, the Pittsfield Track and Field Games.
This year's Pittsfield Track and Field Games will take place this Saturday, July 30 at the Taconic High School track located at 96 Valentine Road. The program will consist of introductions of track events everything from the 50-yard dash up to a mile and field events covering the javelin to the long jump.
To host this event the City of Pittsfield has teamed up with running groups Berkshire Lightning and Berkshire Thunder as well as experts and coaches from Berkshire Running Center. Coaches who are volunteering for the day include Kent and Shiobbean Lemme, Daniel Brien, David Brien, Aaron Weeks, Josh Weeks, Dave Hall, Al Najimy, and Paul Phelps.
This free program introduces and teaches children ages 6 to 14 the basics of track and field including warm-ups and several running and field components.
Parents are required to be present to sign-up their children but do not need to remain at the track for the duration of the event, which is expected to run approximately two hours. Registration and warm-ups will begin at 9 a.m. with events beginning at 9:30 am. Participants are asked to enter the track entrance off of Lakeway Drive.
