Our violent, misogynist dystopia will continue for at least another year. On an unrelated note, Hulu has confirmed The Handmaid’s Tale will be back for a third season.

Hulu made the announcement both on the day The Handmaid’s Tale premieres Season 2’s third installment, as well as that of the streaming service’s NewFront presentation at Madison Square Garden. The company opted to celebrate surpassing 20 million U.S. subscribers and a 60% uptick in total engagement with an official Season 3 renewal for the Emmy-winning drama. Hulu claims The Handmaid’s Tale “doubled its audience versus season one,” and also adds that author Margaret Atwood will serve as co-executive producer for Season 3.

In addition to its core cast of Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Joseph Fiennes, Alexis Bledel, Samira Wiley and Ann Dowd, The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 features Marisa Tomei with a guest role as a commander’s wife in the Colonies, along with Get Out star Bradley Whitford as Gilead’s economic commander, and Cherry Jones as June’s mother. Clea DuVall also joined the series as Sylvia, wife to Alexis Bledel’s character before the rise of Gilead.

In the meantime, new episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 stream every Wednesday on Hulu. Where might Season 3 take us?
