Get your running shoes ready and pull out your red, white and blue, a summer tradition in Berkshire County is right around the corner. With the 4th less than two weeks away, it's time to sign up for the Independence Day 5k.

The race, sponsored by Berkshire Health Systems precedes Pittsfield's Fourth of July Parade, with a 9:15 start. The 5k race starts from the north end of Wahconah Street,  proceeding up North Street, turns around at the intersection of East and West Housatonic Street and finishes at Wahconah Park.

Runners can sign up in person at the front desk at Berkshire Medical Center for $20 or online here for $15. There will be last minute sign up available at packet pick up at Reid Middle School on July 3 from 5-8 p.m. The first 900 participants will receive an Independence Day race shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top five male and female overall finishers as well as in respective age groups.
