High Wind Warning In Effect For Massachusetts
A big shout to the lineman out there who are always ready to go!
The National Weather Service has put out a high wind warning for some parts of the state. It starts around 7 or 10 p.m. tonight and goes until 8 a.m. on Thursday morning. This means winds could blow hard - up to 30 to 40 miles per hour steady, with gusts as strong as 55 to 65 miles per hour.
Wind Warning
The warning covers places like Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties down on Cape Cod and the islands. But other spots like Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties might see strong gusts too, up to 60 miles per hour. Even Boston and Worcester could feel breezy winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour during the day, making it feel super chilly, like in the 40s or 50s.
Storm from the west
Why is this happening? A fast-moving storm from the west is pushing cold air and whipping up the winds. It might knock down tree branches, flip over trash cans, or even cause power outages if lines snap. Driving could be tricky, especially for big trucks or vans that catch the wind like a sail.
Staying indoors is safest
So, what should you do? Stay inside if you can, especially tonight when it's worst. Help your family secure outdoor stuff like bikes, lawn chairs, or holiday lights. Pick a safe room in your house, like a bathroom with no windows, just in case. Charge your phone and have flashlights ready for any blackouts. Schools might close or delay, so check with your parents.
By tomorrow afternoon, things should calm down, but keep an eye on the weather app. Stay safe, bundle up, and maybe read a book by the window while the wind howls!
