If you have driven through Lee lately and had a chance to pop into the Premium Outlets, you may have noticed some empty storefronts. It is no secret that outlet malls across the country have been feeling the squeeze, and Lee has not been completely immune to that trend.

The latest casualty is Eddie Bauer, which is closing its location at the outlets. If you are a fan of their outdoor gear and clothing, you will want to get in there soon before the doors close for good. The "store closing" sign is up and people taking advantage.

But here is the thing about brick and mortar retail. It is not dead. Not even close. And Lee Premium Outlets is proving that this summer.

Because while Eddie Bauer is heading out, Aerie is heading in. The sister brand to American Eagle focuses on bras, underwear, swimwear, and activewear in a wide range of sizes, and has built a massive and loyal following around its body-positive message. Real people, real sizes, no retouching. The Aerie store at Lee Premium Outlets is slated to open June 1, and it is exactly the kind of brand that gets people off their couches and into a store. -premiumoutlets.com

And Aerie is joining an already solid lineup. Lee Premium Outlets is already home to American Eagle, Levi's, Aeropostale, Nautica, Gap Factory, J. Crew Factory, Kate Spade and Old Navy, just to name a few. There is genuinely something for everyone out there.

Also coming soon is a free exhibit called "The Fascinating Story of Baseball in the Berkshires." Running Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from May through October, the display covers the history of baseball right here in our own backyard, including Black history, the history of girls and women in the game, and legendary visits from Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Willie Mays. There is even an interactive display for kids.

Sometimes you just need a reason to get out and shop local. This summer, Lee Premium Outlets is giving you a couple of good ones.
