Pittsfield Gets New Car Wash With 150-Foot Tunnel
Don't you just love the smell of the inside of a car wash tunnel? Patriot and Golden Nozzle have some new competition!
After years of sitting vacant and falling into disrepair, the former Dakota Steakhouse (then Enso) site is getting new life as Lipton Car Wash opens this month at 1035 South Street, right at the Pittsfield-Lenox border.
The new facility represents the second car wash for Lipton Inc., a fourth-generation family business founded in 1910. Owner Michael Lipton said the project addresses a long-standing eyesore while bringing jobs and modern amenities to the busy Route 7 corridor.
"We're bringing jobs to the area, which it needs, and kind of getting rid of an eyesore," Lipton told the Berkshire Eagle. "It's literally right as you come into Pittsfield."
The car wash features a 150-foot tunnel, the largest in the area, with three entry lanes including a teller window for personalized service. The facility can wash up to 150 cars per hour and accommodates up to 35 vehicles on-site without spilling into traffic. -berkshireeagle.com
Technology includes license plate readers that eliminate sticker requirements, allowing members to simply pull up and go. The wash also features 18 vacuum bays, a mat cleaner, eco-friendly water reclamation system, and vending machines stocked with detailing supplies.
The car wash is part of a development boom along the Pittsfield-Lenox border. A new Starbucks with drive-thru is opening next to Guido's Fresh Marketplace, while McGee Automotive is constructing a BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen dealership complex on the Lenox side.
Monthly membership plans are available with cross-discounts at other Lipton businesses including LiptonMart convenience stores and Lipton Energy. Visit liptoncarwash.com for more information.
