What a (whole new) world.

Via Entertainment Weekly, here is your first look at Guy Ritchie’s new live-action version of Disney’s Aladdin. That’s Will Smith as the Genie, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Mena Massoud as the title character.

Does Aladdin shop at North Face now? That looks like a really warm vest for the desert climate of Agrabah.

EW also spoke with Ritchie and Smith about his take on the Genie, one of the most famous characters in the history of animation. Smith says this guy will be different than the one voiced by Robin Williams in the ’90s animated classic: “Just the flavor of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane, versus trying to compete,” he explains. A Disney exec is quoted describing Smith as the Genie as “part Fresh Prince, part Hitch.”

Obviously the man you see on that EW cover doesn’t have the Genie’s famous blue body, but apparently there is a version of that in the film. Ritchie told EW that he wanted Smith’s Genie to have “a muscular 1970s dad” look. “He was big enough to feel like a force — not so muscular that he looked like he was counting his calories, but formidable enough to look like you knew when he was in the room.” This guy and the new Sonic would get along great!

Aladdin opens in theaters on May 24, 2019. Here are a few more images from the film:
