One of the country's largest contemporary art museums that calls North Adams home has a big announcement.

MASS MoCA announced today that the Violent Femmes and X will perform at the world-renowned art hub on June 8. In the past MoCA has welcomed artists like Blondie, Maggie Rogers, Cake and The Pretenders (just to name a few) and hosts Solid Sound and Fresh Grass festivals yearly.

With their self-titled, platinum-selling 1983 debut album, the Violent Femmes instantly became one of the most inventive and surprising bands of the era, brandishing a singular blend of folk and punk, sarcasm and spirituality, which made brilliant stories of anguish, shame and lust into hilariously dark tragicomedies on songs like "Blister in the Sun", "Kiss Off", and "Add It Up". Seven albums later, in 2000, they took a long break — only to return with a vengeance with 2016’s We Can Do Anything, a record as sharp as their best and most iconic work. The Femmes remain one of the most exciting live bands on the planet. L.A. punk icons X, led by vocalist-bassist John Doe and guitarist Billy Zoom, will play a fierce and savage opening set.
