According to iBerkshires.com, The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams has been recognized yet again, this time as Building of the Year: Northeast by The Architect's Newspaper

The 130,000 square foot structure, named the Robert W. Wilson Building, was opened this past spring. The opening doubled the space of the museum, making it again the largest contemporary art museum in the nation.

How lucky are we to have such an awesome venue right here at home? Seriously, we are home to the largest contemporary art museum in the country! I think that's pretty cool.

Since its opening in 1999, Mass MoCA has provided the people of Berkshire County and visitors alike with world class visual art exhibits, plays, concerts, festivals and has hosted countless local events.  I've been there more times than I can count, but recently I've come across what I think is a shocking number of local residents who've never even steped foot on the property. You guys truly don't know what you're missing! I know, I know, you're thinking "I'm not really an art or museum person". BUT, this is not your grandmother's museum, I promise you that.

At Mass MoCA in past year alone I've seen Cake perform live (yes, they rocked), watched a kick ass marching band from New York City (they made the move Drum Line look like child's play), walked through something that I like to call of vortex of wind chimes-esque ornaments in the Until exhibit (extremely cool, and very Instagramable) visited a visual light installation from world renowned artist James Turrell that was seriously mind blowing (think Drake's Hotline Bling video, no seriously, he collaborated with Drake on the video) and drank some delicious locally brewed beer from Bright Ideas Brewing located on the museums campus. YES, THE MUSEUM HAS BEER.

Maybe you're not a childless, beer loving 30 something like myself, well there's plenty for the entire family. Kidspace, the museums interactive center for children, is always free to the public and after Christmas (12/26 - 1/2) there's art making for the littles daily, and at no cost. In addition to Kidspace, guests of any age will love the two virtual reality experiences designed by a world renowned artist and one of the top VR engineers at Samsung. How cool?! Don't forget parent can reward well behaved kids with a treat from Lickety Split, a satellite shop of North County's favorite ice cream parlor.

I promise you, a day trip to Mass MoCA will make you wonder why you haven't already been!
