The Pittsfield Police Department Has A New Chief
At a press conference earlier today, Mayor Peter Marchetti announced the appointment of Marc Maddalena as the permanent Chief of Police for the Pittsfield Police Department (PPD).
“I am thrilled that Chief Maddalena accepted this appointment,” said Mayor Marchetti. “Marc has been a dedicated member of the department for many years and has shown tremendous leadership through the divisions he has led. He is respected by his colleagues, and I look forward to our work together in this new role.”
Maddalena has served as a member of the PPD since 1998, serving in the roles of patrol officer and sergeant. Prior to his role as chief, Maddalena served as a lieutenant managing the Traffic Division which specializes in traffic safety education and investigation of motor vehicle crashes and supervising the evening shift. During his career, Maddalena has served as a DARE Officer, RAD Instructor, CPR Instructor and as a liaison to the city’s Licensing Board, Traffic Commission and Taxicab Commission.
He earned a master’s in public administration from Anna Maria College, and his bachelor's degree from North Adams State College. Maddalena has received numerous recognitions throughout his career including the Save Award from the Western Mass Emergency Medical Services and two letters of commendation during his time as a member of the Pittsfield Police Department.
“I am honored for the opportunity to serve as the Chief of Police for the city that I have proudly called home for my entire life,” said Chief Maddalena. “I look forward to serving and giving back to the community that has helped raise me as well as supporting the dedicated professionals of this police department.”
At the press conference, Mayor Marchetti was joined by District Attorney Shugrue; Assistant Deputy Superintendent from the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, Jason Cuyler; members of the Pittsfield City Council and the city’s senior leadership team.
“I was pleased to learn that Mayor Marchetti appointed Lieutenant Marc Maddalena to Chief of the Pittsfield Police Department,” said District Attorney Timothy Shugrue. “Chief Maddalena has dedicated his career to the people of Pittsfield. I send my sincerest congratulations to now Chief Maddalena, his family, and the Pittsfield Police Department.”
“I know Marc Maddalena, having worked with him for a number of years at the Pittsfield Police Department,” said Sheriff Thomas Bowler. “As Sheriff of Berkshire County, I can speak to his leadership qualities, his willingness to collaborate with our agency and other municipalities to ensure the safety of the citizens of Pittsfield and Berkshire County, and most importantly, the respect he has earned from his peers over the years. He will serve the City of Pittsfield well and I will be honored to refer to him as Chief Maddalena.”
Chief Maddalena will now serve in command of the department.
