"Looking Through Water" is a new movie starring Michael Douglas and his son, Cameron Douglas. It's a family drama about a dad who wants to fix his broken relationship with his son. The dad invites his son to join a big fishing contest in Belize. The story starts with a grandpa telling his grandson about his past adventures. This grandpa is played by Michael Douglas, and the tale involves fishing, family secrets, and making up for lost time.
So, the movie was filmed in a few places. In western Massachusetts, they shot scenes at Pontoosuc Lake in Pittsfield, including the Rusty Anchor Marina & Pub. They also filmed at Benedict Pond in Beartown State Forest, near Monterey. Other parts were done in Belize for the fishing tournament and in Mexico City, Mexico. Does the movie take place in Massachusetts?
Only a little bit. The main story is set in Belize, where the fishing contest happens. The grandpa tells the story from Massachusetts, which makes up about 20 minutes of the film. It's based on a book by Bob Rich called "Looking Through Water."
The movie comes out on September 12 in theaters across the country. It's released by Good Deed Entertainment as a limited theatrical release. You can watch it on the big screen first, and maybe later on streaming platforms, but no streaming date is set yet.
This film shows Michael Douglas in a heartfelt role as a grandpa sharing life lessons through fishing tales. It's exciting that parts were filmed in beautiful spots in western Massachusetts, bringing Hollywood to small towns.
