Nor’easter Heading To Massachusetts; What About The Berkshires?
Massachusetts is bracing for its first Nor’easter of the season, set to hit this weekend, with Sunday bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and potential coastal flooding. The storm, forming off the Southeast coast, will intensify as it tracks north, reaching New England by late Sunday and lingering into early next week.
While warm temperatures in the 50s and 60s will prevent widespread snow, residents should prepare for disruptions, including power outages, travel delays, and minor flooding.
The coast to get the worst!
The National Weather Service forecasts 2-3 inches of rain across southeastern Massachusetts, with isolated areas like Boston and Cape Cod potentially seeing up to 4 inches. Coastal regions face the highest risks, with wind gusts of 40-60 mph, possibly reaching 70 mph on the Cape and islands. These winds, combined with king tides, could trigger moderate coastal flooding, rough surf with 10-15 ft waves, and beach erosion.
Western Massachusetts and The Berkshire to be less affected
Inland areas, including western Massachusetts, may see 1-2 inches of rain and gusts up to 40 mph, with lower flood risks.
Ahead of the storm, sunny and mild weather will prevail through Saturday, but a freeze warning tonight is indicative of a cool-down. Residents should secure outdoor items, monitor updates from weather.gov and prepare supplies like flashlights and non-perishables. Coastal Flood Advisories are likely, and urban areas could see flash flooding. Stay informed, as the storm’s path may shift, potentially extending impacts into Tuesday.
