In a release from the Berkshire County District's Attorney's Office are details of a fatal house fire on Monday morning in North Adams.

On Monday morning around 7:10 a.m., the North Adams Fire Department was dispatched to 77 Francis Street after neighbors reported a possible fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the single-family home.

Witnesses reported there might be individuals inside. Firefighters immediately made entry through the basement to attack the fire and search for occupants. Firefighters located two individuals inside the house; they were both deceased when firefighters reached them. No other individuals were located inside the residence.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of their deaths. The North Adams Police and State Police investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office and Berkshire District Attorney’s office responded to the scene.

The victims will be identified to the public upon notification of next of kin. An update will be sent following notification.
