On Monday morning around 11:57 a.m. the Pittsfield Police Dept., Pittsfield Fire Dept. and County Ambulance responded to the area of 1450 West Housatonic St for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injury. 

A 2007 Ford Freestyle operated by a Mr. Louis E. Matney Jr, 38, of North Adams, was traveling east bound on West Housatonic St in the 1400 block when he collided with a 2019 International Semi-Truck operated by a Mr. Christopher Anderson, 33, of Troy, NY.

As a result of the crash, Mr. Matney suffered serious injury and was transported to BMC where he was listed as stable in the ICU unit.  Mr. Anderson was not injured.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage from the impact and were towed from the scene. West Housatonic St was closed in both directions from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM between both Lebanon Ave intersections for the reconstruction investigation as well for the cleanup of fluids.

As a result of the impact, the gas tank of the Semi-truck ruptured releasing Diesel fuel into the roadway.  Mass DEP and DOT were contacted and responded to the scene as well as a hazardous waste cleanup crew from Maxymillian to assist in clearing the roadway.

This incident is being investigated by the Pittsfield Police Traffic Unit and any witnesses to this incident are asked to contact Sgt. Marc Maddalena at 413-448-9700 ext 575.
