According to the Bennington Banner, a North Adams man is wanted after allegedly driving drunk and hitting a Bennington, VT firefighter.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Mark Ring, 57, of North Adams who is accused of driving under the influence and hitting a local firefighter Wednesday afternoon on Route 9 on Woodford. The firefighter was helping to direct traffic after responding to a separate motor vehicle accident. Michael Slivoski, 61, of the Bennington Rural Fire Department, was hit by Ring's truck after he failed to stop at a roadway blockage and head another firefighter's warning to stop.

Slivoski told police Ring hit him and another truck, pinning him against both vehicles according to reports. Slivoski reportedly fractured his pelvis and was taken by the Bennington Rescue Squad to Albany Medical Center in New York for further treatment.

Another firefighter on the scene told police Ring had tried to come through the roadblock about two hours earlier.

Ring is charged with driving under the influence (first offense) and grossly negligent vehicle operation resulting in serious injury. The Vermont Superior Court in Bennington County issued a warrant for Ring's arrest when he didn't appear in court Thursday to answer to the charges, according to the paper.
