A 22-year-old Pittsfield man faces weapons and drug charges following a Tuesday night incident on North Street.

Pittsfield Police responded to the 500 block of North Street at approximately 6:34 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a report of an unwanted subject. Officers arriving on scene learned that someone had been threatened by a man with a firearm inside an apartment with multiple occupants.

Due to the reported presence of a firearm and multiple people inside the residence, additional officers responded to the scene, including members of the department's anti-crime unit.

Officers were granted entry into the apartment and identified the suspect as Ixander Pereira, 22, of Pittsfield. Pereira was taken into custody without incident.

During the arrest, officers discovered bags of material consistent with heroin on Pereira's person, according to police.

Pereira has been charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (firearm) and one count of Possession of a Class A Substance (heroin). He is expected to be arraigned in Pittsfield District Court on Wednesday.

No firearm was recovered during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Pittsfield Police Department.

Beware the Gas Can Scam!
This one pops up in the City every now & then. It involves individuals, often at gas stations or store parking lots, pretending to be stranded and asking for money for gas, sometimes using a gas can to appear legitimate. They're usually not in genuine need and use fake stories, ask for cash instead of gas, and may get hostile, so it's best to avoid engagement and call police.
