Veteran's Day is just over a month away, but the Kiwanis Club of Pittsfield is near completion when it comes to planning the Park Of Honor.

Every year about this time, Park Square in the heart of downtown Pittsfield is transformed into a field of American Flags for two reasons. The first, to honor Veterans by dedicating each flag to a group or individual, the second, to fund college scholarships for the children and grandchildren of Berkshire County Veterans. Flags can be purchased by friends, families and companies.

Once purchased, row upon row of flags will grace the hub of downtown, each donning a yellow ribbon with a veterans names and information. The Park of Honor dedication and opening ceremony will kick things off Saturday Oct 27 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend and hear the names and stories of honored veterans, and share their own stories as well.  The Opening Ceremony will also include the Presentation of Colors and National Anthem, a POW/MIA table, musical entertainment including Mary Verdi, and a keynote speaker. Flags will remain displayed through the Veteran's Day Holiday until Nov. 26.

The deadline to purchase flags is this coming Monday, Oct. 15.  For more information on the Park of Honor or to purchase a flag honoring a veteran, visit The Kiwanis Club of Pittsfield, or contact them at (413) 242-6363
