Every Wednesday at 8:30 we're joined by John Perreault, Executive Director of the Berkshire Humane Society to discuss all the happenings at their Barker Road facility, plus talk about their Pet of the Week.

This week's Pet of the Week is Katie. Katie arrived at Berkshire Humane Society after her original owner passed away. BHS staff says she is sweet as pie and would love a home where she can walk outside with her new family until her heart's content, then come inside to a big soft bed to hang out on to relax and snooze the day away.

Katie is a senior dog, she doesn't let that stop her. She loves to be out and about from her kennel and meeting new people. The loud kennel environment at Berkshire Humane has her a little angsty and nervous, so a quieter household without young children and lots of noise would be best. She has done some dog intros and doesn't really appreciate other dogs in her space, so unfortunately she needs to be the only dog in the home. She did however do well on my cat test and could live with a dog-savvy cat.

In addition, Katie does have special medical needs, please ask the kennel staff for more information. If you think Katie could be a good fit for you and would like to meet her or would like more information about me, please call the kennel staff at (413) 447-7878 ext.126.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
