Fire Displaces 9 Residents on Pine Street In Pittsfield
The Pittsfield Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 25 Pine Street on Friday, around 2:55 p.m. and found heavy flames coming from the rear second floor of the multi-family home, according to Deputy Chief Dan Garner.
The two-and-a-half-story wooden building was fully occupied when crews arrived, with residents evacuating as firefighters reached the scene. Due to intense fire conditions, a second alarm was issued, bringing all available fire trucks and equipment to the location.
Multiple engine companies worked together to battle the blaze. One crew stretched a hose line through the front entrance to protect evacuating residents on the second floor. Another team attacked the main fire from the exterior rear of the building. Additional crews searched the building to ensure all occupants escaped safely and worked to contain the flames.
A ladder truck provided ventilation and accessed the roof and attic to prevent the fire from spreading further. The Hinsdale Fire Department provided support with their rehab unit for firefighters.
Crews brought the fire under control and fully extinguished it within one hour. All utilities to the building were shut off, and the American Red Cross responded to assist approximately nine displaced residents.
No civilians or firefighters were injured in the incident. The building is considered salvageable, though damage estimates are not yet available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pittsfield Fire Investigation Unit.
