Pittsfield Man Shot and Killed, Another One Injured On Tyler Street
A shooting in Pittsfield has left one man dead and another one injured in an incident police say was not random, according to a press release by PPD.
Pittsfield Police Officers arrived at the intersection of Pleasure Avenue and Tyler Street around 8:09 p.m. after being alerted by ShotSpotter (multiple rounds of gunfire detected) as well as several 911 calls.
When they arrived, they found two men who were suffering from gun shot wounds - both were transported to BMC.
One of the victims, a 38 year-old man from Pittsfield was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was released. The other victim, a 29 year-old Pittsfield man, died from his injuries despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff to save his life.
Investigators from the Pittsfield Police Department are working the case along with personnel from the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office and other assisting agencies.
At this point in the investigation, authorities believe the shooting was a targeted act, meaning those involved were not chosen at random.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and no arrests have been announced at this time. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
It was quite a scene last night in Pittsfield as neighbors, passersby, and patrons of Dairy Cone were shaken up by the incident. This marks the second murder in Pittsfield in less than a month and the fourth murder in as much time.
As I discussed on-air this morning, local Pittsfield nightcrawler, "Anthony Giovanni" was on scene and filming the tragic situation as the news was unfolding - live on his Facebook page.
While some appreciate what Giovanni has been doing in The Berkshires recently regarding reporting on police activity, some found it disrespectful to families of the victims as he was reporting names of the then (allegedly) deceased in real time, according to comments in his post.
