Pittsfield Man Allegedly Caught with Stolen Gun After Fleeing Officers on Francis Avenue
On Monday, Pittsfield Police officers were alerted by a concerned citizen to a male waving a firearm in the area of Robbins Avenue and Linden Street, according to a press release by the Pittsfield Police Dept.
Shortly after the report, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling on Francis Avenue and initiated a traffic stop. At that point, a passenger later identified as Lameek Thomas, 37, of Pittsfield, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Following a brief pursuit through several backyards, Thomas was safely taken into custody.
During the subsequent investigation, officers recovered a handgun that had been reported stolen out of Dover, Delaware, in 2021. It was also determined that Thomas was out on bail for similar illegal gun possession charges at the time of the arrest.
Thomas is charged with Possession of a Firearm without an FID/LTC (Subsequent Offense), Possession of Ammunition without an FID/LTC, Receiving Stolen Property (under $1,200), Improper Storage of a Firearm, and Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes.
The Pittsfield Police Department thanked the citizen who came forward, saying their quick action allowed officers to safely remove an illegally possessed, stolen firearm from city streets. The department also praised the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication to keeping Pittsfield safe.
If you see something suspicious in your neighborhood, Pittsfield Police encourage you to report it. Saturday's arrest is a reminder that a single phone call can make a real difference.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
