Police Have A ‘Potential Suspect’ in Onota Street Shooting

Pittsfield Police are investigating a shooting on Onota Street near Walnut Street, and Mayor Peter Marchetti gave us an update on today's show.

According to PPD, officers responded to the 200 block of Onota Street around 9:21 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4th, after a ShotSpotter activation and calls from people in the area reporting a shooting. Officers arrived and found shell casings on Onota Street and nearby intersecting streets. Two adult male victims were treated at Berkshire Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

About 25 rounds were fired, according to a spokesperson with the Pittsfield Police Detective Bureau who was at the scene and declined to provide their name. -berkshireeagle.com

I asked Marchetti for the latest on the investigation. He said police believe they have a suspect or a potential suspect, but he was careful not to share details. "It's still within the 72 hour timeframe of a crime," he said, and PPD is still actively working the case. He explained that the less information released publicly right now, the stronger the case will be if it goes to trial.

I also asked him whether this shooting might be connected to the homicide back in June at Tyler and Pleasure streets to which he replied, "I don't know."
