One-lane traffic, delays and detours: Pittsfield’s road work schedule for the week of May 18
If you're driving through Pittsfield this week, plan ahead. The city has released its road work schedule for the week of May 18, and several major corridors are impacted.
Here's what's happening:
East Street between Merrill Road and Lyman Street will be milled and given a temporary layer of pavement, with traffic reduced to one lane of alternating traffic.
Delays are expected. The city notes this is not the final surface. Additional underground utility work is coming later this year, and a full resurfacing will follow once that work is complete. MassDOT says the project has faced several unexpected delays due to contaminated materials requiring special handling.
West Street between Backman Avenue and College Way has raised structures in the roadway. Drivers are asked to proceed cautiously and use alternate routes if possible. A paving schedule will be announced soon.
Fenn Street between North Street and Allen Street continues to see underground utility work by Eversource. That work is expected to last several more weeks. The westbound lane between Allen Street and North Street remains closed.
Neighborhood paving is scheduled for May 18 and 19 on Beacon Avenue, Bradford Street, Crane Avenue, Fairfield Street, Charisma Drive and Auburn Street, with structure raising and curbing installation on some of those streets on May 20.
Appleton Avenue between East Street and Dawes Avenue will also see sidewalk replacement on the east side of the street over the next several weeks.
All schedules are subject to change based on weather.
