‘We Know You’re Afraid’, DA Shugrue Says, ‘We’re Working Around The Clock’

Berkshire County District Attorney Tim Shugrue stopped by the show this morning to talk about the recent shootings in Pittsfield.

A lot of people are asking if they’re connected. The perception out there is that this is gangs or some kind of back-and-forth retaliatory stuff.

Shugrue said it’s too early to say that. Right now the focus is simple: figure out what happened. Motive comes later.

Right now, let’s figure out what happened. And it’s a small area, it’s three-quarters of a mile with all these incidents happening. A lot of people are similar in each of the investigations. A lot of the players are similar. So it’s not… no one can say at this point, are these connected, are they individual things? Some of them appear to be separate beefs, so to speak. He noted that all of these incidents are happening in a small area, about three-quarters of a mile. A lot of the same people keep showing up in the different investigations. Some of them look like separate beefs. Others might be tied together. They just don’t know yet.

What he was clear about is the priority. There are armed people on the street, and the community is afraid. Shugrue said every possible resource in the county is being put toward getting those individuals and those guns off the street.
