Popular Berkshire Eatery Has Permanently Closed its Doors
Massachusetts folks know all too well that trying to operate and keep a restaurant open these days can be difficult. With changes in the dining-out culture and rising costs, many people can't afford to eat out anymore. Some of the big chain restaurants like Friendly's, Hooters, Chili's, Applebee's, 99 Restaurants, and many more have fallen victim to these types of circumstances throughout the Bay State, and as such have had to shut down some of their restaurants in Massachusetts. In addition, it's difficult to find and hold onto good help.
A Berkshire County eatery has experienced some difficulties, though the circumstances are a little different, and therefore had to shut its doors this past weekend. Roman’s Bistro & Bar in Hancock is closed. The reason for the closure, according to owner Xion Roman, was that it was difficult to get the help he hoped for, but it's not exactly what you think.
As reported by The Berkshire Eagle, when Roman opened the pizzeria in November 2025, he envisioned hiring people like himself — in need of a second chance — as well as first-time job holders to run the operation. That didn’t work out, he said, and he ended up running the restaurant alone.
In addition, due to some of his past troubles with the law, he was unable to obtain a liquor license. As a result, running the eatery just wasn't feasible. But Roman mentioned how the community was very supportive of the eatery.
What's next for the building? Well, it's now on the market for $62,000. Hopefully, the right person comes along and opens a new business. Only time will tell. Check out more details from the Berkshire Eagle article by going here.
