An accident at a well traveled Richmond intersection has claimed the life of an elderly woman, the second in the past three weeks.

The intersection of Route 41 and Dublin Road in the town of Richmond, has been the site to two fatal car crashes in the past three weeks, the second occurring late in the afternoon yesterday.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that State Police from the Lee barracks and Richmond first responders were called to the intersection, where they found two people trapped in one of the vehicles involved in the accident.  Firefighters extricated the crash victims, who along with the driver of the other vehicle, were taken to Berkshire Medical Center. State police say one of the victims was a 73-year-old woman who later died at BMC.

Few details are currently available on how the accident occurred and State Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.  The condition of the two surviving drivers is unknown this time as well. Route 41 in the area of Dublin Road was closed for about four hours following that crash.
