After some reprieve from the cold and snow, there is now a winter weather advisory for Pittsfield and The Berkshires.

The National Weather Service is forecasting snow showers developing after 4 a.m. Saturday morning, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible overnight.

Saturday's forecast brings a 70% chance of continued snow showers, mainly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with an additional 1 to 3 inches of accumulation expected. Total snowfall could reach up to 5 inches in some areas by Saturday evening.

Saturday's high will climb to around 30 degrees with light south winds, but the snow will create slippery conditions throughout the day, particularly impacting the morning and afternoon commutes.

Slow down and use caution while traveling. Be prepared for slippery roads. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

Today's high will top out around 23 with colder wind chills. Those bitter temperatures will moderate as we head into Saturday, but the combination of fresh snow and fluctuating temperatures means surfaces will be particularly treacherous.

The snow chance continues into Saturday night with another 30% possibility of light accumulation before clearing out for the weekend. Sunday looks mostly cloudy with highs in the low 30s.

Give yourself extra time for your commute Friday morning and keep that snow brush handy.
