We spoke with Ricardo Morales, Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Pittsfield, via text message on Friday morning about the impending storm and his plan for mitigation -

We are actively preparing for the significant winter storm currently forecasted to bring up to 16 inches of snow to our area. Beginning in the early hours of Sunday, the City will move to 12 hour shifts, expected to remain through at least Wednesday to manage plowing, treatment, and cleanup.

We are closely monitoring the forecast and coordinating internally on potential citywide parking bans, as well as expected impacts to trash and recycling collection and travel conditions. Residents should anticipate difficult travel at times, especially Sunday into Monday, and we strongly encourage limiting travel unless absolutely necessary.

If parking bans are implemented, they are critical to allow plows to fully clear streets and to keep emergency routes open. We will communicate any parking bans or service changes as early and as clearly as possible through City channels.

Our crews will be out around the clock prioritizing public safety, emergency access, and main roadways, and we appreciate the public’s cooperation as we work through what is expected to be a long duration storm.
