
Snowfall Totals In Berkshire County – Do You Agree?
The massive winter storm that pummeled Berkshire County from Sunday morning through Monday delivered wildly different totals depending on where you live, according to reports from our listeners and followers.
This was the first real big storm in quite a few years, as last year we saw consistent snow, but it small amounts.
I asked you guys to report what you experienced with Sunday's storm on Facebook.
Becket and Hinsdale took the brunt of the storm, with both communities reporting 24 inches of accumulation. Lanesborough wasn't far behind at 20 inches, while Pittsfield measured 16 inches by the time the heavy snow ended Monday afternoon.
Dalton residents reported 15 inches, Lee saw 14 inches, and Adams recorded 12 inches on the northern end of the county.
The storm, which meteorologists called one of the most significant in recent years, started around 9 a.m. Sunday and continued relentlessly through Monday. Snowfall rates reached 1-2 inches per hour during peak periods
Sunday evening, creating treacherous road conditions and forcing MassDOT to lower speed limits on the Massachusetts Turnpike to 40 mph.
Commissioner of Public Works for Pittsfield, Ricardo Morales was on-air with us this morning and seemed happy to report that crews did a great job.
Berkshire County schools were closed as well as some other local businesses including Greylock Federal Credit Union branches.
The storm arrived alongside brutal cold, with wind chills dropping as low as minus 12 degrees Monday night, creating dangerous conditions even after the snow stopped falling.
