Running The Jason Street Stop Sign And Getting Pulled Over
This is amazing, really, and sometimes karma has a sense of humor - and impeccable timing.
Just hours after admitting on-air Friday morning that I'd previously run a notorious four-way stop sign on Jason St. in Pittsfield (a unique residential area for a four-way stop signs), I found myself pulling back into the radio station parking lot with flashing blue lights behind me.
The irony? I'd just run that exact same stop sign.
Pittsfield police were cracking down on that intersection yesterday, pulling over drivers who fail to stop. During Friday's morning show, I openly confessed I'd been guilty of rolling through it in the past.
The moment
Fast forward to my lunch break. After my midday workout at the gym, I was heading back to work - mind wandering, still in post-exercise mode - when I completely spaced and blew right through the stop sign.
The officer pulled me over directly outside the radio station where I work. As I explained I was a morning show host who had literally just talked about this very intersection on the air hours earlier, I could see him trying not to laugh.
He issued a written warning.
The embarrassment was real, but so was the humor of the situation. What are the odds of confessing to running a stop sign on the radio, then getting caught running that same stop sign before lunchtime?
Consider this my public service announcement: that four-way stop is no joke. Pittsfield police are watching. And apparently, the universe has a wicked sense of timing.
I won't be running it again. Marjo was in tears with laughter.
