April 19 is National Garlic Day, and garlic just makes everything better, right? It tastes amazing, helps cure colds, is known to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and has many bacteria fighting properties.

Garlic in spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, garlic powder, garlic bagels, garlic on pizza, garlic in pickle juice, cooked garlic cloves, it goes on and on...

There are two major downsides; however, it makes you flatulent (fart a lot), and makes your breath stink!

Garlic has high levels of fructans, which is science talk for things that can cause gastrointestinal issues like bloating, gas and IBS. Garlic also has a pretty powerful smell, which comes from a particular odor molecule called allyl methyl sulfide.

So, how do you get rid of garlic breath? Eating raw apples, drinking lemon juice, and drinking green tea all have been proven effective.

Oh, I almost forgot, garlic wards off vampires! Enjoy some garlic today.
